The Emmys 2021: BetBonanza’s previews

2021-09-17 News

Do you remember Bridgerton? The beautiful Netflix series that had us all gushing over the near-perfect cast of characters? Do you remember Daphne and the Duke? The glamour of the Bridgerton’s old money versus the glitz of the Featheringtons new money? Well, that series is one of the hot shows nominated for this year’s Emmys!

But there are even more. “The Crown”, a historical drama series depicting the reign of England’s Queen Elizabeth II, had 24 nominations. It is aired on Netflix, and has Josh O’Connor, who is portrayed in the series as Prince Charles, nominated for lead actor in the drama category. So also is “The Mandalorian”, an American space Western television series that is a live-action series in the Star Wars franchise. It begins five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and stars Pedro Pascal as the title character. Here, Pascal is a lone bounty hunter who goes on the run after being hired to retrieve "The Child". Aired on Disney Plus, “The Mandalorian” also had 24 nominations for The Emmys.

There is also Marvel and Disney Plus’ “WandaVision”, an American television miniseries based on Marvel Comics, featuring the characters Wanda Maximoff and Vision. In the series, Wanda has a mental breakdown and it results in the death of her husband Vision, another avenger - Hawkeye and some other people. WandaVision received 23 nominations. Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” - a story of life in an imagined society with much suffering, Gilead, which is ruled by a totalitarian regime that treats women as properties belonging to the state – also got 21 nominations.

There is also NBC’s “This is us,” which got 17 nominations. An emotional story of a unique set of triplets, their life struggles and their amazing parents, “This is us” is set in Pittsburgh and has captured the hearts of the viewing public.

This year’s awards will be held in-person, unlike last year when it held remotely as the world battled Covid-19. And for the streaming platforms, the contest is between HBO and Netflix in this year’s awards. HBO got 130 nominations, while Netflix got 129. The Emmys is an annual award made for outstanding achievement in television shows. That of this year will be aired on Sunday, September 19.
