PLAYERS TO WATCH AT THE 2022 AUSTRALIAN OPEN

Australian Open 2022, the first Grand Slam of the year began today 17th January

 It will see top tennis stars battle it out for ultimate glory.

A lot of fireworks are expected and so far despite the rather controversial absence of the Men’s defending champion Novak Djokovic, it hasn’t disappointed. For the Women’s Event names like Serena Williams, Karolina Pliskova, Jennifer Brady, and others will be missing out.

But with a certain Rafael Nadal on course for a 21st grand slam title and what is now a reborn Naomi Osaka present at the tournament, it promises to be an exciting Tennis fiesta.

Here we bring you a countdown of players to watch out for during this Australian Open.

MEN’S CATEGORY;

Daniil Medvedev:

The current world No.2 and top seed will hope to build on his impressive US Open Victory. A victory that saw the 25-year old put an end to the Calendar grand slam win hopes of world No.1 Novak Djokovic.

Fancying his chances, the Russian is set to kick off his tournament against Swiss Henri Laaksonen who is currently ranked as world No.92.

Alexander Zverev:

The German Olympic gold winner will hope to win his maiden grand slam at Melbourne.

Coming closest at the 2020 US Open, the world No.3 will get his campaign started with a match against Daniel Altmaier.

Rafael Nadal:

The current world No.6 and ‘king of clay’ will hope his 2009 Australian open form can be repeated. The Spanish maestro will fancy his chances particularly with the absence of both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, of winning his record-setting 21 grand slam title. Rafael Nadal kicked off his campaign with a straight-set victory against American Marcos Giron.

WOMEN’S CATEGORY:

Ashley Barty:

The world’s No.1 and top seed will go in search of her 3rd grand slam title. Hoping to get her maiden title in Melbourne, she was off to a fantastic start as she ran over Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko in a 6-0, 6-1 straight-set victory. Ashley Barty will hope her fantastic run in 2022 will spur her to victory in Melbourne.

Garbine  Muguruza:

The Spaniard world No.3 will hope to go one better than she did in 2020 precisely a result that saw her finish as runner-up to eventual champion Sofia Kenin.

So far she has had successes adapting the various surfaces and the 2-time grand slam winner will hope to win her maiden Australian Open title.

Naomi Osaka:

The defending champion had her 2021 jet off to a flying start, as she clinched the 2021 Australian open.

A deep in form as a result of her mental health had her pull out of both the French Open and Wimbledon.

Naomi returned to the court during the course of the Olympics and also partook in the US Open.

But a US open 3rd round exit appeared to be the end of her 2021 tennis year.

Now with a fresh start, the 4-time grand slam winner raced to a straight-set victory against Colombia’s Maria Camila Osorio Serrano in her Australian open first fixture. To defend her title, Naomi will have to run past top seed Ashley Barty and Garbine Muguruza to name a few.

PREDICTIONS;

We at betBonanza tip 20-time grand slam winner Rafael Nadal to go all the way for the Men's category and for reborn Naomi Osaka for the title in the Women's category at Melbourne.
