Dallas Mavericks: Reasons for optimism despite a slow start

2022-12-16 News

A side pegged by most analysts to continue the upward trajectory this season have consistently failed to hit the high standards many have set for them.

With 17 games into the season already, things don’t look any rosy for Jason Kidd’s side.

Mavericks Faithful are with hope that things could soon turn for the better and sharing in that sentiment, we bring you three reasons why Mavericks fans can be optimistic despite a slow start.

  1. Luka Doncic

Any team with a superstar of Doncic’s quality cannot be counted out, irrespective of the circumstance they are faced with.

Doncic is one of the best players in the league. He finished fifth in MVP voting last season and he is a player the team can count on to change the outcome of any game at any time as he has done in time past.

Expect Luka Doncic to pilot the Mavs further up the standings. No player can match the 23-year-old’s blend of scoring, playmaking, rebounding, and highlight-making. He is a unique talent. Hence Fans should be optimistic whenever Doncic plays.

  1. Historic Offence

Considering the fact this Mavericks team led the NBA in offensive rating in the 2021 season, fans can stay hopeful their current run of poor form will take a turn for the better.

The 2020-2021 season saw the Mavericks produce a historic 115.9 points per 100 possessions, with the 23-year-old Slovenia Luka Doncic at the center of these awesome numbers.

A number that was followed by a less impressive 112.9 points per 100 possessions in the 2021-2022 season.

The 2022-2023 season so far has seen the Mavericks eclipses their performance from last season as they are currently at 114.41 points per 100 and Luka Doncic with the highest points per game rating (34.0) so far this season.

  1. Depth and Clutch

With a roster boasting five point guards (PG), five shooting guards (SG), five small forwards (SF), five power forwards (PF), and four Centers (C), the Mavs are one of the deepest teams in the league. Tim Hardaway Jr. coming off the bench and looking dynamic as the sixth man would come in handy for the Mavericks.

The Dallas Mavericks can rely on their depth and improvements in the clutch to win games. That is a massive lift that should have fans optimistic about them making a recovery this season.
